Fantastic Half term of Learning at Honeybees
At Honeybees, we’ve been buzzing with excitement as we dived headfirst into the wonderful world of vegetables! A huge, heartfelt thank you for your generous donations—our classroom has been a colourful patchwork of shapes, textures, and scents, all thanks to your contributions.
We kicked things off with the adventurous tale of Supertato—what a hero! The children were captivated by the daring escape of the veggies and have been keenly on the lookout for any mischievous peas ever since. Inspired by the story, we sorted through a rainbow of fruits and vegetables, learning how to tell them apart and chatting about where they come from.
Then came the messy, marvellous fun: vegetable printing! Carrots became swirling circles, peppers made star-like shapes, and the humble cabbage leaf transformed into beautiful floral patterns. Our art area is now adorned with garden-fresh masterpieces. Along the way, we talked about how these colourful foods help us grow big and strong—why carrots are great for our eyes, how broccoli builds our muscles, and why we should ‘eat a rainbow’ to stay healthy.
As we wrap up this fruitful exploration, we’re gently putting out feelers for a few extra resources to help our little learners continue to blossom. If you happen to have any spare mug trees or junk modelling materials (clean cardboard tubes, egg boxes, plastic containers etc.) looking for a new home, we would be so grateful to take them off your hands.
Looking ahead, after the half-term break, we’ll be shifting our focus to a brand new theme: Growth. We’ll be venturing outdoors to spot the first signs of spring—budding flowers, longer days, and the sweet songs of returning birds. It’s sure to be another season of wonderful discovery.
Extend the Fun at Home: A Half-Term "Growth Detective" Mission!
To keep the curiosity growing over the break, your child might like to become a Growth Detective. Here’s a fun, simple mission:
The Great Sprout Search: Plant a bean or pea seed in a little pot or even on damp cotton wool in a jar. Let your child water it and watch it each day. They can draw what they see in a little diary!
Spring Spotter’s Walk: On a walk to the park or around your neighbourhood, see how many signs of spring you can find together. Look for budding leaves on trees, flowers like crocuses or daffodils poking through, or birds busy collecting twigs.
Create a "Junk Model" Garden: Using any spare boxes or containers, work together to build a colourful garden or a weird and wonderful plant. This is a fantastic way to get ready for our junk modelling in class!
We hope you have a restful and happy half-term break. Thank you for your continued support—it truly helps our Honeybee hive thrive!
